DESIGN TALK

WORKSHOP WEEK,  POLIMI DESIGN SCHOOL
Wednesday 15 February 2023, 5.30 pm

ADI Design Museum _ Piazza Compasso d’Oro, 1, 20154 Milano MI

From 13 to 17 February 2023, the School of Design of the Milan Polytechnic will be transformed into a large open and international workshop with its Master’s Degrees in Integrated Product Design and in Digital Product Design. Six groups of international lecturers will conduct as many design workshop experiences on frontier themes in which design culture becomes a matrix for connecting other cultures and disciplines. This year, the workshops will be led by international designers and researchers, including Ron Gilad, Eithan Sharif, Duy Phong Vu, Mauro Porcini, Marie-Thérèse Cassidy, John Thakara, Roberta Tassi, Daisuke Ishii, and Pieter Desmet. More than 120 international students will develop concepts for new products, services, systems and experiences, trying to imagine innovative solutions in different fields proposed by the teams of lecturers and companies involved.

On 15 February, at the ADI Design Museum, there will be a Design Talk in which the designers, lecturers for a week, will discuss the present and future role and possible impact of design culture in a society in continuous transformation.

The following will take part in this dialogue: Luciano Galimberti, President of ADI; Francesco Zurlo, Dean of the School of Design at Milan Polytechnic; Margherita Pillan, Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Digital Interaction Design; Venanzio Arquilla, Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Integrated Product Design. Emphasis will be placed on the knowledge, skills and abilities required of designers in this renewed scenario, in which disciplinary barriers seemingly diminish, and physical and digital intertwine, generating new opportunities.

The workshops have always characterised the training of designers at the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano, representing a concrete opportunity to come into contact with professional designers and different cultures, and with companies and institutions they represent. For students, it is an opportunity to get to know and understand the times and modes of design in companies, and to put themselves to the test in building their own design identity by verifying their skills and aspirations.

These are the lecturers and the topics addressed:

  • Ron Gilad with Eithan Sharif for Glas Italia
  • Duy Phong Vu with Ilaria Vitali and Gianluca Silvestrini for DeLonghi Group
  • Mauro Porcini with Christian Saclier, Marie Therese Cassidy, and their team for PepsiCo.
  • John Thackara with Roberta Tassi.
  • Daisuke Ishii with Kentaro Shibukawa, Yasuyuki Suki, Ryu Shibata, Reiko Mitsugi and Mariko Watanabe for Sony Corporation.
  • Pieter Desmet

DESIGN TALK

WORKSHOP WEEK,  POLIMI DESIGN SCHOOL

Mercoledì 15 febbraio 2023, ore 17.30

ADI Design Museum _ Piazza Compasso d’Oro, 1, 20154 Milano MI
