Ilaria Pirro, Asia Volpi, Natalia Patarroyo, Marcello Frigerio, and Gustavo Lozano are among the winners of the “Go!2025”<\/strong> open call promoted by MuDeFri (Museum of Friuli Venezia Giulia)<\/a>, with the Trattopunto<\/strong> project. The prototype was presented at the Gorizia Design Week<\/strong> during the exhibition “Fiber art & Textile design”<\/strong>, held across multiple venues in Nova Gorica and Gorizia. The exhibition showcased the winning projects from a competition open to designers under 40, focused on functional objects connected to the world of textiles or the concept of weave and texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trattopunto is an open-source, portable sewing machine designed to repair small holes in clothing -effortlessly and efficiently. Born from a simple but powerful idea, it is an essential tool for every fashion-conscious individual who wants to extend the life of their garments, save money, and reduce their environmental footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The device tackles those bothersome small holes with ease, offering on-the-spot fixes without the need for expensive tailor visits or time-consuming hand sewing. It is built entirely from open-source components: a mechanical click pencil, hacked and combined with a series of 3D-printed parts – making it accessible to anyone who wants to download the files and build it themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origins and academic context<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trattopunto was developed during the\u00a0“Hacking” module<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0Concept Design Studio Green<\/strong>\u00a0course (academic year 2022\u201323), supervised by\u00a0Prof. Massimo Bianchini<\/strong>, with\u00a0Laura Cipriani<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Luca Grosso<\/strong>. The project is a prime example of design hacking: transforming an everyday object – a mechanical pencil with a click mechanism \u2014 into a micro sewing system with a precise and functional purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
